Our Work

Strategy Is Important. Implementation Is Where Change Happens.

Outside Perspective works with government agencies, nonprofits, community organizations, and cross-sector partners to turn ideas into practical solutions.

Our work ranges from designing and implementing programs to developing leaders, strengthening teams, facilitating difficult conversations, and helping organizations translate ambitious goals into clear plans for action.

Every engagement is different. Our approach starts with understanding the challenge, listening to the people closest to the work, and developing solutions that make sense within the realities of the organization and community.

The Opportunity

Employment can be a powerful pathway toward stability, but individuals facing multiple barriers often need more than a job referral. Through the Employment Support Program, Outside Perspective supports efforts to connect noncustodial parents with employment opportunities, resources, and individualized services designed to help them move toward greater economic stability.

Our Role

Outside Perspective provides program implementation and participant services across multiple service areas while coordinating with public agencies, employers, community organizations, and other partners.

  • Participant outreach and engagement
  • Individualized employment planning
  • Employment preparation and job-search support
  • Employer and community partnership development
  • Referrals to supportive services
  • Participant progress and milestone tracking
  • Program performance monitoring
  • Contract reporting and documentation

Our Approach

We recognize that employment barriers rarely exist in isolation. Our approach considers the broader circumstances affecting a participant's ability to enter and remain in the workforce. Rather than simply connecting participants to available jobs, we work to understand their goals, identify barriers, connect them with appropriate resources, and develop practical steps toward sustainable employment.

Leadership Development & Executive Coaching

Leadership DevelopmentExecutive CoachingTeam Effectiveness

The Opportunity

Complex projects require more than technical expertise. They require leaders who can communicate effectively, navigate competing priorities, build trust, and lead people through change. Outside Perspective has supported leadership development work with a WSDOT design-build team in partnership with Clarity Consulting.

Our Role

The engagement has included executive coaching and leadership development designed to strengthen individual and team effectiveness within a complex project environment. The work focuses on helping leaders examine how their communication, decision-making, relationships, and leadership practices influence the people and systems around them.

Our Approach

We believe leadership development is most useful when it connects directly to the situations leaders encounter every day. Rather than relying exclusively on theory, our approach creates opportunities for reflection, practical application, candid conversation, and the development of strategies leaders can use in real workplace situations.

Program Analysis & Contract Support

Program AnalysisEducationContinuous Improvement

The Opportunity

Strong programs require organizations to periodically examine whether their systems, processes, and practices are producing the intended results. Outside Perspective provided contract review and program analysis support related to Washington's 21st Century Community Learning Centers work.

Our Role

Our work included reviewing program and contract information, examining implementation considerations, and helping identify opportunities to strengthen alignment between expectations and practice.

Our Approach

We approach program analysis with a practical question: What is supposed to happen, what is actually happening, and what needs to change to close the gap? That perspective helps move analysis beyond identifying problems and toward developing useful recommendations for implementation.

The Opportunity

Good program design benefits from bringing the right people into the conversation early. Outside Perspective supported a program design workshop for the Washington Health Benefit Exchange focused on creating space for participants to examine challenges, explore possibilities, and translate ideas into actionable program considerations.

Our Role

Our work supported a collaborative process designed to move participants from discussion toward greater clarity about program direction and implementation.

Our Approach

We design facilitated conversations with a purpose. That means creating enough space for different perspectives to emerge while maintaining the structure necessary to move a group toward decisions, priorities, and next steps.

Organizational & Team Development

Helping Teams Work Better Together

Not every challenge requires a new program or strategic plan. Sometimes organizations need space to address how people communicate, make decisions, manage conflict, understand roles, or work together. Outside Perspective has designed and delivered customized organizational and team-development engagements for public agencies, businesses, nonprofits, and community organizations.

  • Executive and leadership coaching
  • Team development
  • Workplace communication
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Conflict resolution
  • Roles and accountability
  • Equity-centered leadership
  • Strategic planning
  • Meeting and retreat facilitation
  • Customized training and workshops

Organizations including Absher Construction and public-sector partners have engaged Outside Perspective and its consulting partners to support leadership, organizational development, and team effectiveness.

Community Engagement & Facilitation

Better Decisions Begin With Better Conversations

Community engagement is most effective when people can see how their participation matters. Outside Perspective designs engagement processes that create meaningful opportunities for people with different experiences, responsibilities, and perspectives to contribute to decisions that affect them.

Our experience includes working with community members, people with lived experience, organizational leaders, frontline staff, government agencies, advisory groups, service providers, and cross-sector partners.

  • Community listening sessions
  • Focus groups
  • Stakeholder interviews
  • Advisory groups
  • Strategic planning sessions
  • Leadership retreats
  • Community meetings
  • Facilitated decision-making
  • Consensus building
  • Cross-sector collaboration

Our role is not simply to get people into a room. Our role is to create the conditions for useful conversation — and help turn that conversation into action.

How We Approach the Work

While every engagement is different, four principles guide our work.

01

Listen First

Before recommending solutions, we work to understand the organization, community, people, history, and circumstances surrounding the challenge.

02

Understand the System

We look beyond individual problems to understand the policies, relationships, processes, resources, and structures influencing the work.

03

Design Together

People are more likely to support and sustain solutions they helped shape. Whenever possible, we build processes that include the people responsible for implementing the work and those most affected by it.

04

Move to Action

Our work is designed to produce more than good conversations. We help translate ideas into priorities, responsibilities, milestones, tools, and practical next steps.

The Work Continues

Impact isn't always a single number. Sometimes it is a participant securing employment. Sometimes it is a leadership team communicating differently. Sometimes it is a program moving from concept to implementation. And sometimes it is a community seeing its experiences reflected in a decision that affects its future.

Across each engagement, our goal remains the same: Help people and organizations see the challenge differently, develop practical solutions, and move the work forward.
